Abstract

The vast popularity of social media generated advantage for public diplomacy in the internet. China government blocked many social media sites. Chinese citizen accessed social media by VPN. In globalization era, people cannot be aside from mass mediated communication, an individual is engaged and influencing the others without affected by any limitations such as race, ethnic, culture, nation or distance. The researcher wants to deliver that the social media phenomenon has the role as a diplomacy tool with in-depth interview the Instagram user in Indonesia and China. Also, this research is using public diplomacy theory to analyze this research. One of the advantages for public diplomacy is the social media user who seen the content related certain country have the knowledge and information. The relationship between the Instagram user from two different country is one of the diplomacy that the Instagram user made in term of a good measure to improve international image.
