Abstract

Jakarta, Indonesia is the capitol city of Indonesia and being the capitol city, there is no doubts about it having much urban destinations. In the year 2019, Dinas Pariwisata dan Ekonomi Kreatif Provinsi DKI Jakarta held a press conference in which they will be taking a focus on developing the urban tourism in the city. Whilst it is in development, they are promoting the existing and newest urban tourism destinations through the use of Instagram account @jakarta_tourism. In order for Dinas Pariwisata dan Ekonomi Kreatif Provinsi DKI Jakarta to be successful in creating interest in the urban tourism destinations, they have to cater to the Gen Z audience as well. In this research, the aim is to see if the account itself impacts the interest in urban tourism destinations in their Gen Z followers. This study uses the S-O-R theory and the AIDA model to see the quantitative correlations between Gen Z’s interest and the Instagram account @jakarta_tourism. The population of this study consists of those that are followers of @jakarta_tourism and are a part of Gen Z. This study uses the Lemeshow formula to determine its sample and accidental sampling method to examine the samples taken. The results shows that the correlations between each variable are moderately positive. With a coefficient of determination value of 0.337, it shows that @jakarta_tourism effects 33.7% of interest within its Gen Z followers and the other 66.3% is influenced by other factors.
