Abstract

Intercultural communication is an essential skill needed in this day and age, as it is a process of messageexchange between those from different cultural backgrounds that could lead to different interpretation of the content. The purpose of this research is to identify the cultural obstacles Indian Gurus at Jawaharlal Nehru Indian Cultural Center encounters with its IndonesianMembers in order to achieve a success full intercultural communication. Through this the researcher analyzesdevelopment of Intercultural communication and providesinsight on how to overcome the barriers. Thisresearch uses the qualitative method and an ethnography approach that focuses on culture with data collection interviews. The resultof this research shows that out of 7 barriers in intercultural communication, only 2 are encountered at Jawaharlal Nehru Indian Cultural Center. Acceptance is one of the keys to effective intercultural communication.
